First Offsite Retreat for BIFOLD / TU Berlin Data Systems Researchers
Building Bridges in Data Systems Research
Data systems researchers in BIFOLD and TU Berlin held their first collective offsite retreat in Wandlitz, Brandenburg (25 km north of Berlin) between March 10, 2025 and March 12, 2025. The primary objective of the meeting was for new and continuing researchers to network: to get to know one another, learn more about their research activities, identify areas where synergies could emerge, and socialize in an external environment.
Given that there are now four groups devoted to data systems research, the need to bring everyone together became ever more pressing. The attendees are members of one of the following groups:
- Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA),
- Big Data Engineering (DAMS Lab),
- Data Integration and Data Preparation (D2IP Lab),
- Management of Data Science Processes (DEEM Lab).
In all, about 50 people took part in the event, including university professors, administrative staff, senior researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral researchers. The activity was marked with talks, poster sessions, a gong show, and social games in the evening.
