DIMA-DAMS Retreat 2024
The three-day retreat was packed with state-of-the-art discussions on data management and data engineering
The annual retreat for the Database Systems and Information Management (DIMA) and Big Data Engineering (DAMS) groups was held February 20-22, 2024 in Potsdam, Germany. The event was marked by a lively exchange between the two groups and their scientists.
During the event, 24 doctoral students presented the progress on their research to date. After each presentation, fellow doctoral students as well as senior scientists provided constructive critiques. This enabled students to better understand areas where additional thought and work is warranted. Moreover, the event sparked opportunities to identify topics that could potentially lead to new BIFOLD research projects or collaborative papers. The event was spiced up with periods of respite, where participants could walk on the grounds, take a swim in the pool, bowl, or simply spend time with their peers.
A souvenir of the event was the creation of a music playlist on Spotify that scientists listened to while bowling one evening. Take a listen.
