The central event of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on International Women's Day 2025 focuses on the gender gap in artificial intelligence (AI) and asks: “Tomorrow's technology, yesterday's problems? What to do about the gender gap in artificial intelligence?”
In addition to a keynote speech, a moderated panel discussion is planned in which experts from science, research and innovation will discuss key questions on this topic. Although the field of research is highly modern and relevant for the future, according to the “Global Gender Gap Report 2023” by the World Economic Forum, only around 30 percent of AI talents in 2022 were women. Unesco cites a mere 12% of women in AI research worldwide. The gender gap in AI is particularly significant as it means that development is predominantly carried out by male-dominated teams. This harbors the risk of white spots in research and development. On the occasion of International Women's Day, the aim is to discuss how more young women can be encouraged to study AI and how the participation of women in the AI sector can be strengthened. The event will be followed by a reception and networking opportunity.
The event will be held in German.
